The Chemistry Department's original building is historic Davidson Hall, built in the 1930s. Davidson Hall, which contains faculty offices, departmental administrative offices, and laboratories, will be vacated in May 2010 and demolished, saving only the historic stone facade. Davidson will be replaced with a new 60,000 square foot modern teaching-and-research building, which will be occupied by 2013. Hahn Hall, our main research and faculty office building, was built in 1980. A third building, initially named Chemistry/Physics, was built and occupied in 2002 and contains primarily teaching laboratories and some research instrumentation. In 2009 the Chemistry/Physics Building was recommissioned as Hahn Hall South, and the original Hahn Hall was renamed Hahn Hall North. This cluster of buildings is on the northwest side of the Drillfield, across West Campus Drive from the Duck Pond and The Inn at Virginia Tech. The links at right provide maps and directions to the Virginia Tech campus and to the Department. During the interval when Davidson Hall is being rebuilt, several research groups will occupy space in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. These buildings are VT KnowledgeWorks 2, the Integrated Life Sciences Building, and another building that has not yet been identified.
The Chemistry Department is committed to fostering diverse instructional, research, and outreach environments. We endorse the principles and procedures established by:
